Daze of our lives...

All sorts of nonsense happens in the course of the day... good, bad, indifferent... whatever. Thoughts spring to mind, shit happens, things work out, but often don't... usually I have no idea of what's going to happen beforehand and perhaps its better that way. Anyway, just a little of what's going on and a way of clearing my mind... Read on at your own risk.

OK, not all that much to tell... just a slightly insane, very tired but reasonably perceptive guy who's life is filled with "why's" and never knowing why...

The Worst Photo on Earth

(a.k.a. Fright In The Night)

This is probably the worst photo ever made of me... I'll take take the risk of posting it though, in the hope it might be of some therapeutic use. It's one of those photo's you almost deliberately put away as far as possible so that you never need to look at it and hope that nobody else ever finds it either. Nevertheless, I have always wanted to keep it near to me somehow, because it is an important photo in other ways... me in a different life and in different times, a totally different person.

Guess which one's me (and no, I'm not the middle one)

It was taken in December 1978, just after we'd received the results of our final exams. This was our farewell party. This was the last time we would all be together in one place and although I saw a number half a year later in Sydney, I've never seen any of them again. With the exception of Peter then, who lived/lives fairly close to where my mother lives but even that was 10 years ago.

Ten months after this photo was taken, I left Australia for good, never to return for more than a few weeks at a time. In hindsight I wonder if I had been wise in doing so, but not knowing what the alternatives might have been and not being able to do anything about it either, the question's pretty irrelevant really.

Things happen and you take them as they come. Some thingsI did were pretty good moves, others were so dumb I'm totally ashamed of myself occasionally. Nevertheless, they're what's made me me so they also have played important parts in the life in which I have the leading role.

It seems like everyone has issues with certain pictures from the past. :) I think it's good to look back from time to time, to see how much you've changed. I especially agree with the last paragraph. You take life as it comes and make descisions that seem right for that moment. Sometimes, you make the wrong descision, but hey, life is a learning experience. You can't get everything right now can you?

Accepting yourself with flaws and qualities and coping with your past is a sign that you are a really healthy person... Methinks you are the guy from the left side... He sure looks more like the funny-hat-moppet we se next to your comments...

In the end, it's all about change: if there were no change, what would be the end purpose of life? We'd just be the same for x number of years, then die as the same person we came into the world.

Pretty bleak.

Thankfully, we do have the opportunity to move on, do great things, meet wonderful people...that's what gives meaning on a daily basis.

OMG!!! It has to be the one on the right...the one on the left is relatively normal looking! ;)

Thanks for always stopping by to comment. I'm trying to catch up with everyone!

Funny how life goes its own way; You always have to make choices and never wonder what would have been if you went another way. It can be so surprising when you think back and agree that your choice must have been the right one...

I used to love the show "Sliders". It shows what the world looks like in a parallel dimension where people made different choices then they did in our world. Some of them are better, some of them are plain bad and some of them are confusingly like ours...

Sometimes it doesn't matter what you choose. But we should be glad with the life we live...
